Group Leaders…lend me your ears!

January 17, 2011 Leave a comment

Leaders, don’t forget this Saturday, January 22nd we’ll be meeting from 9:30am – 11:30am.

Our topic of conversation will revolve around “Getting the Most out of LIFE”

While many of us our so busy, our group life slowly drops to the bottom of our priority list. Why? Even in a busy world, why should group life suffer? We’ll talk about how we can take charge and help our group members take that step of faith by putting this time back toward the top.

Reaching the Masses

November 9, 2010 Leave a comment

I love all the conversation about how to effectively minister to so many people at once. Think about this…20 years ago, we could only minister to people whom we were seeing face to face. Hopefully most of you are old enough to remember this time. It was just shortly after the dinosaurs disappeared.

Anyways, nowadays things are very different. We reach people in a number of ways. We reach people through email, through Facebook, through twitter, through blogs and you tube posts, etc. Are any of these effective though? Well, maybe. I think the online world has given us the opportunity to spread a few more seeds. What I mean is we used to have to hand sprinkle the seeds as we went along. Now, the internet has given us an opportunity to utilize a spreader! Ah yes, a giant seed spreader!

Don’t get me wrong, nothing can or should ever replace human contact. I believe that we should really be making our greatest impacts in this way. How can we use both methods effectively? That is the real question.

You probably all have friends and acquaintances that dabble in the online world. Reach out them and then bring them in to real face to face contact. You see, this is the core of the who we are. It’s about the ability to build relationships with one another. It’s sharing the good news with the person right in front of you.

If you are lost in the online world, its time you made contact with flesh and blood. It’s time you responded to how God created you. He did not create you to be alone. And yes, even though you have 800 friends on Facebook, it is possible for you to be alone. We are meant to live in community, we are meant to be in the presence of other people who can know more about us than our activities, our likes and our political and religious view and of course our latest relationship status.

If you are in the Grand Island area, or if you have friends who need to be with people, tell them about our next Group Connection Event on December 12th. Just click on the Group Connection link above. It’s time to show them what real relationships are all about!

An Investment for the Books

What are you investing in?

I am not asking about your Starbucks or your Microsoft stocks though. I am asking about your eternal investment. For the last year or more I’ve had in my email signature (that static ending to every email I send) “For His Kingdom”. What does that mean though? I have to look at how I am investing in “His Kingdom” and what the impact of that is. The funny thing about this investment is, you don’t get a monthly update on your Kingdom portfolio.

Our investments into the Kingdom of God aren’t seen until heaven. So, for those of you who might be expecting payback, you’ll be waiting for longer than you want. Then again, why is it you are expecting anything? I think about all the times that I have given it my all to plant a seed of encouragement or a seed of wisdom and just hoped and prayed that a person would come to see it grow in their life.

It’s like the parable of the talents. These men had been given much, but what did they do with it? Two of them actually did see return on what they had been given, but what about the last guy. What did he get in return? Nothing. He buried the talents. For what? Who knows. God has gifted each of us with so many talents. Maybe your talent is time or resources, or abilities. How are you using that to impact the Kingdom of God? What eternal investments are making now?

If this is a new concept for you, don’t fret. There is still time to invest in the Kingdom. There is still time to take what God has given you and use it for His purposes.

In three weeks on Saturday, October 16th, you’ll have an opportunity to invest your talents into the kingdom of God. As Jesus’ hands and feet, come and serve with me and many others to show the love of Christ to those who may not know him.

Choose to make a difference by investing in something new. Invest in the Kingdom. I promise you, the payback is huge! You may have to wait for it, but a treasure in heaven is greater than the greatest riches on earth.

Group Connection Event

September 16, 2010 Leave a comment

Hey all! I am really excited to tell you about the TCCC Group Connection Event coming up on Sunday, September 26th. Just as the name implies, I want to be able to connect you to a group. If you are not plugged in yet, I’d love to have you join me to experience group life! I can’t say enough how incredible it is to participate in something like this.

We do group life, not only because its what Jesus did, but even earlier, God created us with this need that many will go their whole lives without filling it. The need is for community. Some of you say that coming to church is your way of participating in community. Well, yes, that is one form, but let me ask this…when you come to church, how much time to spend building into the life of others and allowing others to build into your life? I’d guess its pretty small, unless we’re talking about a conversation over a donut between services.

Here is your chance to allow others into your life, and for you to get to know others in deeper more personal way. Christ’s example was that he spent great amounts of time knowing and being known by the twelve men he surrounded himself with. There was great teaching and great relationships forming.

So join me on Sunday, September 26th for 1 hour from 12:15p to 1:15p and I promise, you won’t regret it! See you there!
